What we do

M3 Agriculture Technologies offers pest control solutions focused on sterile insect release, targeting codling moth and navel orangeworm with sterile insect technique combined with drones and machine learning.

Using the sterile insect technique, we release sterilized insects into orchards, reducing pest populations in an eco-friendly way. SIR is a backbone of Integrated Pest Management for specialty crops such as apples, pears, almonds, and pistachios.

We are dedicated to addressing invasive species that threaten global food security, and we offer commercial solutions in Washington State, California, and Michigan.

A $1 million grant from the National Nuclear Security Administration supports the development of an X-ray-based insect suppression method.

Chief Executive Officer

A founding member of M3 and a subject-matter expert on sterile insect technique in Integrated Pest Management, with 21 years working in SIT. Before he established M3 in 2012, Nathan worked on the USDA Pink Bollworm Eradication Program, which eliminated pink bollworm from North America. He has published research on SIT for pink bollworm, codling moth, yellow fever mosquito, and Mexican fruit fly, contributed to two UN Coordinated Research Programs on SIT, and served as a subject editor for the Journal of Economic Entomology Special Collection on Drones for Insect Pest Management.

Dr. Marion Le Gall

Chief Science Officer

Dr. Le Gall earned her PhD in entomology from Texas A&M University and conducted postdoctoral research at Penn State University and Arizona State University. Her expertise is the nutritional ecology of herbivorous pests within Integrated Pest Management. At M3 she applies the Geometric Framework for Nutrition to develop optimal diets for rearing the insects that SIT programs target.

The first release of sterile pink bollworm from a small unmanned aircraft system.

2018

M3 launched a commercial SIT program that now operates across multiple states.

Today

M3 runs sterile insect programs for codling moth across Washington, Oregon, California, and Michigan, and holds multiple USDA APHIS PPQ permits across species programs including pink bollworm, navel orangeworm, and Mexican fruit fly.

Federal projects

Rangeland multispectral and lidar survey, Asian longhorned beetle survey and detection, swarm UAS, and smart rangeland programs. M3 collaborates internationally with the UN International Atomic Energy Agency.

“In three to five years SIT is paying for itself.”
Teah Smith, Zirkle Fruit Company
